Bronze Age South Hornchurch
This reconstruction painting shows the late Bronze Age landscape in the valley of the Ingrebourne at South Hornchurch. The circular enclosure with single large roundhouse is in the right foreground, next to a major trackway running north west-south east along the valley side. In the left foreground are two further roundhouses, with arable cultivation. A smaller track runs down from the main trackway into a large area of open grazing on the gentle valley slopes running down to the River Ingreboune. Alder scrub and other trees are growing in the damper ground in the valley bottom.
